…Nor height, nor
depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the
love of God… (Romans 8:39)
The
story is told of a farmer who had a weather vane on the top of his
barn. On the weather vane were the words, “God Loves Us.” One
day a minister happened to be visiting and asked, “Are you
suggesting that God’s love varies like the wind? That every time
the wind changes, God’s love changes?”
“Not
at all,” replied the farmer. “I mean to infer that regardless of
which direction the wind might be blowing, God’s love is always
with us.”
In
an age of constant change, of newer and better technology, in a world
where change happens moment by moment, we need to be assured that the
love God has for each of us is constant and never changing. Once we
come to really believe that God is the same yesterday, today and
forever, we find ways to cope with the threats and disappointments
that come with change.
While
nothing can separate us from God’s infinite love, the world of
change around us can challenge that belief and trust. Only when we
realize the constancy of God can we come to firmly rely on the
never-changing aspect of God in our daily walks and stride through
the changes that bombard us from every side daily.
God
of unchanging love, may we hold tightly to Your love as the only
thing in this crazy world that does not change, and may we find hope
in the security of Your constant nature!
