“But blessed is the person who trusts in God, whose confidence is in the Creator.” (Jeremiah 17:7 Inclusified)

A missionary in Africa had been witnessing faithfully to a certain individual. Following their conversation one day, the unconverted man placed a small statue and a silver coin on the table before him. Then he took two slips of paper and wrote something on each. Putting one beside the image and the other with the money, he turned to the Christian worker and said, “Please read this.”

On the note next to the idol, the man had written, “Heathen god.” The sheet next to the coin read, “Christian god.” From what this needy soul had observed in the lives of the merchants who were calling themselves “Christians,” he concluded that money was their god and the object of their devotion.

We all must be careful of placing our trust or focus in anything other than the true God. Trust that is placed elsewhere is misguided and fruitless. One who fails to rely completely on God can easily mislead others who are watching closely. A life rooted in God is a tree planted in fertile ground and rooted deep.

Holy Creator, may we walk in such a way that others will know that we walk with You by our side constantly.
