Jesus said, “Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.” (John 13:14)

At the Passover Feast, Jesus the master became a servant and washed the feet of his followers. Jesus encouraged His disciples to adopt an attitude of service; He instructed them to follow His example and to wash one another’s feet.

We may not literally wash feet, but we serve one another in every act of caring. Some of us help young children with baths, dressing and meals. Some of us help older adults with shopping, bathing or housecleaning. Others help those who are physically ill or challenged and need assistance with daily routines.

When we care for one another, we become the arms and hands of God. God’s Holy Spirit moves through us to touch the lives of others with love. God recognizes the sacrifices we make to meet the needs of others.

Who’s feet have you washed today?
